The Periodic Table of Broadway Musicals

What is it?

The Periodic Table of Broadway Musicals is an illustrated poster of 118 of the greatest musicals of all time, in the style of the iconic Periodic Table of the Elements. As a musical theater composer, Broadway pianist and teacher, I wanted to create something fun, eye-catching and educational that celebrated this quintessentially American art form in all its color and variety, and the geek in me thought this would be the perfect format. I found two phenomenally talented illustrators, Tatiana Bischak and Nick Matej, who are creating a witty, original icon for each show, and together we’re making a real showpiece that will be both a work of art and a conversation starter full of information and humor for every musical theater fan.

How does it work?

After an extended in-depth research process and polls of other Broadway professionals, I selected the shows and organized the list into ten families, just like the original chart:

Each “tile” features a wealth of information in a concise, easy-to-read layout: the show’s title, symbol, icon illustration, opening year and number of performances of its original Broadway run, whether it won the Pulitzer or Tony Award® for best musical, and if it has had a Broadway revival or a movie adaptation.

The shows are organized chronologically within each family, and when the entire poster is filled in, you’ll be able to peruse each family at a glance.
